Description: Anti-wrinkle.  A synthetic tripeptide that mimics the effect of Waglerin-1 has recently been marketed as SYN-AKE (Pentapharm, Basel, Switzerland) for reducing wrinkles by inhibiting muscle contractions. Acting at the postsynaptic membrane, SYN-AKE is a reversible antagonist of the muscular nAChR. It was assumed that this peptide binds to the epsilon subunit of the muscular nAChR, which prevents binding of acetylcholine to the receptor. More products based on peptides with such neurotransmitter blocking activity are expected to affect the cosmeceutical industry in the next few years.
