Description: Two new cyclic heptapeptides, stylisin 1 and stylisin 2, were isolated and characterized from the Jamaican sponge Stylissa caribica, in addition to the cyclic heptapeptide phakellistatin 13 and the known bromopyrrole alkaloids sceptrin, stevensine, and oroidin. Stylisin 2 displayed high antibacterial activity against K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa, along with potent antifungal activity against C. albicans. In comparison, Gram negative bacteria were found to be more sensitive than Gram positive bacteria towards stylisin 2.
