Description: Endogenous opioid peptides, such as enkephalins, endorphins, deltorphins, dynorphins and endomorphins are involved in regulation of many biological processes, among them pain control. Deltorphins are naturally occurring peptides with high affinity and selectivity for δ-opioid receptors. These opioids have a d-amino acid residue in position 2 of their sequence and an amide residue at C terminus that protect them from enzymatic hydrolysis. In vivo antinociception studies demonstrated that deltorphins are opioid peptides with an unusually high ability of penetration through the mouse BBB.
