Description: (S)-α-methylproline(α-MePro) is a reverse-turn mimetic in the construction of synthetic peptide. Some potential applications of α-MePro as a reverse-turn mimetic in the construction of synthetic peptide libraries is discussed.C(alpha)-methyl-L-proline, or L-(alphaMe)Pro, is probably the most conformationally constrained alpha-amino acid. Alpha – methyl- proline treatment significantly increased collagen synthesis as compared to untreated ovariectomized and estradiol treated ovariectomized rats and restored collagen synthesis to levels of sham operated rats. GP(Me)H could be a lead compound for further development of peptidomimetics able to contrast neuroinflammatory processes. The ability or (S)-α-methylproline(α-MePro) to stabilise reverse-turn conformations in the peptide hormone bradykinin (BK = Arg1-Pro2-Pro3-Gly4I-Phe5-Ser6-Pro7-Phe8-Arg9) has also been investigated.
